Some miracles of Hadhrat Khwaja Bahauddin Naqshband (May Allah shower His Mercy on him)

Many miracles are attributed to Hadhrat Khwaja Bahauddin Naqshband (May Allah shower His Mercy on him).  Some of them are being related here:

·        Once, the Khwaja asked Hadhrat Khwaja ‘Alauddin Attar (May Allah shower His Mercy on him):  Has the time of Salaat Ul Zuhr started?  He said:  No.  The Khwaja said:  Just look at the sky.  Hadhrat ‘Alauddin (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) did so and saw that all the veils had been removed and he saw that the angels were engaged in offering Salaat Ul Zuhr.  The Khwaja then asked him: And you were saying that the time had not started.

·        Once, a dervish prepared a cap for the Khwaja which was usually worn by the kings.  After wearing the cap, the Khwaja said:  I have worn the cap of the kings.  Tell me which king should I deal with?  A dervish named a governor from Transoxiana.  The Khwaja said:  I have dealt with him.  In the same state, the Khwaja sent a letter to a noble who had run away out of fear of that governor:  I have killed that ruler.  Send 500 Dinar for the dervishes with the bearer of this letter.  After some days, it was learnt that the governor was killed the same day.  The companions of the Khwaja marveled at this.  The Khwaja said:  Whenever such a thing is expressed through us, we are not there at all.  Whatever is expressed through the People of Allah (Ahlullah), they have no power over it.  These are the decisions of divine will.

·        Once Ameer Burhanuddin came to the Khwaja’s residence and started baking rotis in the oven.  Suddenly it started raining.  The Khwaja told him:  Tell the rain not to fall where we are present.  Ameer Burhanuddin said:  How can I dare to say such a thing?  The Khwaja said:  I am telling you to say it.  He said these words.  Thus, everywhere it rained, but not a drop fell at that place.

·        Once, a brother of a devotee of the Khwaja was made a prisoner by the marauders of the desert.  On the orders of the Khwaja, he started from home to search for his brother.  At last, he found his brother in Khwarezm.  While returning to Bukhara, both the brother boarded a ship.  A storm struck them and the boat started to sink.  That person turned to the Khwaja.  He saw the Khwaja and the storm stopped.  When they reached Bukhara and came to the Khwaja, he said:  When you had greeted us with Salaam from the boat, I had returned the greeting, but you didn’t hear it.

·        A dervish lost 25 Dinar.  The Khwaja said:  So and so slave girl has taken your money.  He ordered her to return the money.  She said:  I have buried the money at such and such a spot.  The Khwaja said:  But there are only 3 Dinar there.  When it was dug up, only 3 Dinar were found.

·        Once the Khwaja had sent a dervish to a particular place.  He traveled some distance and fell down and died.  His associates came running to the Khwaja.  The Khwaja went with them and placed his foot on the chest of that dead dervish.  He started squirming and came back to life.  The Khwaja said:  I have brought his soul back from the 4th heaven.

·        Once a dervish Muhammad Zahid came to the Khwaja and said:  My slave has run away and I am really anxious.  The Khwaja said:  Don’t worry.  Stay here for 2 days.  After that you can return to your house.  You will get the news of your slave.  The dervish did as the Khwaja ordered.  When he returned home after 2 days, he saw the slave also coming to the house.  On asking the slave said:  I was trying to run away, but suddenly my feet were manacled.  Whenever I would turn back, the manacles would vanish.  Frightened, I have returned.  Please forgive me.

·        The Khwaja stayed at the house of a dervish.  He bought a bag of flour from the market.  The Khwaja told him:  Keep using the flour but don’t tell anyone about the increase or decrease in its quantity.  The Khwaja stayed there for 2 months.  Everyday a lot of people would come to meet the Khwaja.  Still the same flour would be used.  Even after the Khwaja went away from there, the same flour was being used.  Out of happiness, that dervish mentioned this to his family and friends and that blessing stopped.

·        Once, some disciples were pulling a wagon full of mud on the orders of the Khwaja.  A disciple, Muhammad Kharkoshi came to meet the Khwaja.  When he learnt that the Khwaja had retired to his house, that disciple started flying and flew to the rooftop of the Khwaja’s house.  Other disciples also followed him there.  The Khwaja came out and said:  What do you want from this pauper?  Nothing can be gained from that.  You cannot rely on this state.  There are very many who fly in the sky like birds, but seeking the Lord Almighty is something entirely different.  The dervishes became frightened on hearing this.  The Khwaja said:  Fill up that wagon.  When the wagon was filled, the Khwaja gestured towards it.  The wagon would move of its own accord, empty itself and come back.  On seeing this, those who were present were embarrassed by what they did.

·        A disciple of the Khwaja came to him in a very sad and sorrowful state.  He said:  A person in my native place abused and insulted me a lot.  I didn’t mind it, but when he insulted you as well, it saddened me to no end.  The Khwaja said:  Don’t worry.  That person will soon be debased in this world and the next.  When that disciple returned to his native place, that person he had spoken of was taking food for his servants who were working the fields.  While his servants ate, he started working himself.  Suddenly, a wolf came and bit off his nose and lips.  That person became so ugly that people would call him, “the wolf-bitten one.”

The passing away of the Khwaja

The Khwaja would often say:  When I die, I will teach others how to die.  In his last moment, the Khwaja raised his hands for supplication and supplicated for a long time.  The moment he ended his supplication, he gave up his soul.
