The authority of Hadhrat Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (May Allah be well pleased with him)

 

[The miracles of the saints are well established by the Holy Quran and Hadith.  Please click here to read a detailed article on this.  Here, we present 2 miracles of Hadhrat Ghouse Azam (May Allah be well pleased with him), which have been related by Shaykh Ul Islam, Imam Muhammad Anwarullah Farooqui (May Allah sanctify his secret) in his famous work Maqasid Ul Islam]

 

Batrus Bustani of Daairatul Ma’arif has related this.  A person came to Hadhrat Shaykh ‘Abdul Qadir Jeelani (May Allah be well pleased with him) and said:  My daughter went on the terrace of the house and vanished from there.

 

The Shaykh Said:  At night, go to the desolate area in the locality of Karkh.  There, sit near the 5^th mound.  While sitting, draw a circle on the ground saying Bismillahi ‘Ala Niyyati ‘Abdil Qadir.  When darkness falls, groups of genies will pass you in various guises.  Don’t be frightened on seeing them.  Near dawn, their king will come to you with a big army and ask you your desire.  Tell him:  I have been sent by Shaykh ‘Abdul Qadir (May Allah shower His Mercy on him).  Then tell him about your daughter.

 

That person followed the instructions of the Shaykh.  Before dawn, the king of the genies came and asked him what his desire was.  When that person told him that he had been sent by Hadhrat Shaykh ‘Abdul Qadir Jeelani (May Allah shower His Mercy on him), the king of the genies got down from his horse, kissed the ground and respectfully sat outside the circle.  Then that person related what had happened to his daughter.  The genie king said to his subordinates:  Whoever did this, bring him to me.  Thus, they brought a rebellious genie with whom that person’s daughter was also there.  The genie king ordered that that genie should be beheaded.  He returned my daughter to me and took leave.

 

This also shows the knowledge of genies that a circle was drawn in Karkh, but the genie king knew from far away about it.  He traveled the whole night and reached the circle just before dawn.  That circle, which was drawn only with the name of Hadhrat Shaykh ‘Abdul Qadir Jeelani (May Allah be well pleased with him).

 

This also shows the authority of Hadhrat Ghouse Azam (May Allah be well pleased with him) as to what power he has over genies.  It was only a line drawn on the ground in his name on which the king of the genies came and kissed the ground..(Maqasid Ul Islam, Vol. 7, Pg. No. 169, 170)

 

There is a friend of mine who I have known since the last 40 years, who is a very pious, careful and God-fearing person, any number of people will attest to whose piety.  He has a son who has been brought up with piety and fear of Allah Most High.  I myself heard this from both of them and I don’t doubt that they are speaking the truth.  I cannot reveal their names.  Both of them say that a person performed the marriage of his youngest son.  Immediately after marriage, the groom fell ill.  As that person himself was knowledgeable, he inquired and found out that a genie had taken possession of the groom.  He tried his utmost but to no avail. 

 

At last, on the advice of people, he took the groom to the blessed grave of Hadhrat Meeraan Data (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) in Gujrat.  When the groom was brought to the grave at the appointed time, he fell into a swoon.  Then he started saying:  You called me and imprisoned me.  If I knew that you were calling me for this affected man, I would never have come!

 

The words and the demeanor of the affected man were testifying that he was seeing Hadhrat Meeraan Data (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) himself and is conversing with him directly.  In the course of the conversation, he would recite something and blow on his hands…The speech of the affected man clearly showed that Hadhrat Meeraan Daata (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) had asked him something and he was replying to it. 

 

The affected person spoke out:  I had already indicated to this person not to marry that girl, but he didn’t listen to me.  At last, I informed Hadhrat Meer Mahmood (May Allah shower His Mercy on him), whose blessed grave is in Hyderabad on a mountain, that this girl’s family used to fulfill my right, i.e. give something in the name of Narsu.  Hadhrat told me that these people are Muslims.  Don’t expect anything from them.  They will not give anything to you.  I said:  If they aren’t giving me anything, then they should surrender the girl to me.

 

Then Hadhrat Meeran Data (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) told the affected person something which he (i.e. the genie) didn’t accept.  At last, it was decided that the next day a committee would be there which would have 6 members.  Hadhrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) would be the president of the committee and the other members would include:  Hadhrat Baba Sharfuddin, Hadhrat Naseer Charagh Dehlwi, Hadhrat Abu Sa’eed Baghdadi (May Allah shower His Mercy on them).  With this, that day’s session ended.

 

The next day at the appointed time, when the affected person was brought to the blessed grave of Hadhrat Meeraan Data (May Allah shower His Mercy on him), he fell into a swoon and the committee members started arriving.  The affected person was greeting them the way Hindus greet their elders, in spite of the fact that that boy had never done so earlier in his life.  Then the session started.  The affected person’s tone and tenor of voice was that of a learned barrister fighting a case.  The language he used then was also very eloquent.  During the course of the conversation, he would give orders as well:  Array that army!  Order that army to finish such and such a task!

 

Among the arguments that he presented was that he had already warned the affected person not to marry that girl.  At last that genie said:  I am not going to accept anything which this committee says.  Let this case be presented before the emperor.  Thus, the case details were sent to the emperor, Hadhrat Ghouse Azam (May Allah be well pleased with him) and that day’s session ended.

 

          When the third day’s session started, the command of Hadhrat Ghouse Azam (May Allah be well pleased with him) was received.  It said:  If I want, I can turn you into ash.  However, as you had already Hadhrat Meer Mahmood (May Allah shower His Mercy on him), you are being excused.  Still, for the disrespect that you have shown to our people (i.e. the committee members), I order that you should be given rigorous imprisonment for 5 years on such and such mountain of Ajmer….

 

After this chains and shackles were brought and the hands of the affected person came together as if they were being shackled.  Immediately after that groom regained consciousness.  From that time until now, which has been more than a year, that young man didn’t suffer in any way.  (Maqaasid Ul Islam, Vol. 8, Pg No. 171-174)

 

Thus, these 2 incidents are enough to show that the power and authority of Hadhrat Ghouse Azam (May Allah be well pleased with him) are truly all encompassing.
