Weekly lecture of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi

This world is ephemeral.  Humankind will not live here forever.  At an appointed time, they have to depart from this world.  Human beings haven’t come into this world only to fulfill their wishes and whims, but they have been sent with a special objective.  The basic aim of the creation of the human beings is to worship Allah Most High and acquire gnosis of Him.  Almighty Allah has commanded us to lead a life of piety:

O believers! Keep fearing Allah. And everyone should be vigilant to what he has sent forward for tomorrow (the Day of Reckoning). And always fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Well Aware of what you do.  Surah Hashr (59:18)

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Shaykh Ul Fiqh, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture at Masjid Abul Hasanaat.  The lecture is held under the auspices of AHIRC.

The revered Mufti said that Muslim should lead their lives as per the orders and wishes of Almighty Allah and His Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  A Muslim should discard all desires of the flesh and submit himself/herself to the commands of Allah Most High and the Shariah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  A Muslim should always remember death.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

Translation: Remember the one which drives away pleasure, death.  (Jame’ Tirmidhi, Abwaabuz Zuhd, Hadith No. 2477)

The revered Mufti said that it is the habit of human beings that when they want to travel to a certain place, he/she finds out the conditions of that place.  Then that person takes the provision of the journey and undertakes that journey with full preparation.

Similarly, we also have to undertake the journey of the hereafter fully prepared.  On the Day of Judgment, a slave will be asked about each and every moment of his/her life.  The record of deeds will be placed wide open before that person and it will be ordered:  You read your own record of deeds.  Today, you are enough for your reckoning today.  The pious slaves will be given their records of deeds in their right hand and the sinner will be given their records of deeds.

That sinful person will say:  If only, I had not been given my record of deeds.  May I die so that I can save myself from this tribulation.  In the world, if anyone dragged me to the court, I would spend my money and come out.  Alas!  Wealth will not be of any use today.  In the earthly world, I rested on my power and position.  I would do whatever I wanted without any hesitation.  Alas that all my position and power has turned to dust.

Almighty Allah will order:  Bind this person in chains and throw him into hell.

The revered Mufti said that we should analyze our lives from every angle.  We should analyze our beliefs and our deeds.  We should analyze whether any rights are due to others.  If we have lapsed anywhere, we should immediately turn to Allah Most High and seek His forgiveness sincerely.  If we have erred in fulfilling the right of a fellow human being, then we should fulfill that right.  We should be especially careful about rights of fellow human beings, as Almighty Allah does not forgive them unless the person to whom the right is owed forgives it.

It was the custom of the saints that every night they would analyze their deeds of the whole day.  We should also do so.  At least, we should reflect over the necessary deeds of the day.  If we have committed a good deed, we should thank Allah Most High for it and pray for steadfastness.  If we have sinned, we should repent.

When we reform ourselves, a pious society can be developed.  This is because society is formed by individuals.  If the individuals are reformed, the society will also be reformed.

The session ended with the moving Dua of the revered Mufti.

Maulana Hafidh Ahmed Mohiuddin Rafi Naqshbandi, Kamil Ul Fiqh, Jamia Nizamia, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
