The shameful incidents of sexual assault and how to prevent them

Weekly lecture of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi

Islam is a religion which has success and betterment for all humanity.  This is the religion, which has granted safety of life and honor not only for its own adherents but for all classes of humanity.  On the occasion of the Farewell Hajj, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) declared in His address:  O people!  Life, wealth and honor are sacred for you the way this day is sacred for you in this city of yours.

The benefactor of humanity, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has not only granted safety and security to all humanity but has also created a virtuous society through His teachings of etiquette, modesty, selflessness and love.

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Shaykh Ul Fiqh, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture at Masjid Abul Hasanaat.  The lecture is held under the auspices of AHIRC.

The revered Mufti said that when any attack is made on the life, wealth or honor of any person, that person will not take it lying down but defend himself with all vehemence.  Thus, Islam has set guidelines for prevention of crimes so as to make the society an exemplar of peace.

Nowadays, the incidents of sexual assault are increasing day by day.  The height of animalism is that a grownup is raping a 5-year-old girl.  The situation is so bad that no one’s honor is safe, be it a small girl or an aged lady, so much so that girls are being targeted by their own fathers/brothers.

The powers that be are not able to improve the situation in spite of their many plans.

The revered Mufti said that if there is any system which can show the path to deliverance from this volatile and dismal situation, it is Islam.  The Shariah has decreed strict punishments for such heinous acts so that the strictness of the punishment deters people from such crimes.

People object to the stern punishments decreed by Islam, but their own failure to control such crimes is making them admit the wisdom of Islamic punishments – people are demanding that such criminals should be killed!

The revered Mufti said that Islam is that system which has granted such high form of security to women that not only is their life and honor sacred, even those who slander a virtuous lady without any proof will be given 80 lashes.

In the Holy Quran, Almighty Allah has not only given guidelines for prevention of crimes, but has checked all those ways which lead to crime.  Thus, the means of indecency are also prohibited.  Let alone committing an indecent act, Almighty Allah has ordered us not to even approach it.

Womenfolk have been ordered to use Hijab to safeguard their honor and chastity and men and women, both have been ordered to lower their gaze and guard their chastity.

The revered Mufti quoted the following verse of Surah Noor:

Direct the believing men to keep their eyes always lowered and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Surely, Allah is Well Aware of the (works) which they are busy doing.  Surah Noor (24:30)

He said that when the gaze falters, the person steps closer to indecency.  As lewd gazing becomes the foreword to later sins, Islam has placed checks on this as well.

When the fear and consciousness of Almighty Allah is present in one’s heart and one realizes that one has to answer for one’s deeds, then each and every person himself stays away from sins.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  The person who stares lustily at the beauty of any woman, on the Day of Judgment, molten lead will be poured into his eyes.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) also said:  When adultery and usury become common in a nation, the wrath of Almighty Allah descends on them.

The session ended with Salaam and Dua.  Maulan Hafidh Ahmed Mohiuddin Rafi Naqshbandi, Kamil Ul Fiqh, Jamia Nizamia, and Teacher, Dar Ul Uloom An Nomaniya, led the proceedings.
