Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) - Fount of gnosis of Allah Most High

Hadhrat ‘Ali – Fount of gnosis of Allah Most High

(May Allah be well pleased with him)

Weekly lecture of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi

Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is an epitome of all excellences and the very fount of accomplishments.  Many excellences are combined in his person.  He is at once a member of the Prophet’s Family (Ahl Ul Bait) and a great Companion as well.

The progeny of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) runs through Hadhrat ‘Ali and Hadhrat Fatima (May Allah be well pleased with them).  Even the birth of Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is unique.  He was born inside the Ka’aba.  This is the reason he is addressed as Mauloode Ka’aba.  He has this unique distinction that he was born in the house of Allah and was martyred in the house of Allah Most High.

When Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) was born, the first person he rested his eyes on was the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  Thus, he achieved such greatness that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  Seeing the face of ‘Ali is also a form of worship.  (Hakim)

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture conducted under the aegis of AHIRC in Masjid Abul Hasanaat.

The revered Mufti said that Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is also one of the first persons to embrace Islam.  In the 13-year Makkan period of Islam, Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) performed many great services for Islam.  Even in Madina, he sacrificed a lot for the cause of Islam.  Courage and bravery was his hallmark.  Except the Battle of Tabuk, he participated in every battle.

The revered Mufti said that for the Emigration, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) selected Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (May Allah be well pleased with him) and to return the trusts of the people, He selected Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him).  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) ordered Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) to sleep on His own bed.

That the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) selected these 2 persons shows the absolute trust the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) had in both of them.

Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is the line of demarcation between faith and hypocrisy.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) told Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him):  Only a true believer loves you and only a hypocrite can hate you.

The Companions (May Allah be well pleased with them) say:  We would recognize the hypocrites through their hate for Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him).

When the greatness of Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is mentioned before someone and that person’s face lights up, then that is a sign of love for Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) and love for him is a sign of faith.  If someone’s face crumples at his mention, it is a sign of hate for Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) and hate for him is a sign of hypocrisy.

The revered Mufti quoted a Hadith for Jame’ Tirmidhi that in Taif, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) took Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) aside and spoke to him secretly.  When this talk became lengthy, people said:  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is speaking confidentially with his uncle’s son.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  I did not speak confidentially, but Allah Most High spoke with ‘Ali confidentially.

There is a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  You are through me and I am with you.

Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) gained knowledge directly from the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  He is such an ocean of knowledge and wisdom whose depths cannot be fathomed.  The following words of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) are proof enough for the great knowledge of Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him):

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  I am the house of knowledge and wisdom and ‘Ali is its door.  (Jame’ Tirmidhi)

Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is not only the fount of gnosis and realization of Allah Most High, but also the dispensator for it.  Hadhrat Mujaddid Alf Thaani (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) said:  Whoever will get sainthood (Walaya) until the Day of Judgment will get it through Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) only.

Almighty Allah granted Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) the honor of martyrdom as well.  Ibn Muljim attacked him with a poisoned sword while Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) was offering Salaat Ul Fajr of 17th Ramadhan.  Later when Ibn Muljim was caught and presented before Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him), he said:  O people!  He is my guest.  He should not be troubled.  Let him have the best of food and cold water to drink.

A sherbet was presented to Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him).  He said:  Unless my guest is served first, I will not drink this.  When the sherbet was offered to Ibn Muljim, he said:  I will not drink it.  I know it is poisoned.  When he was informed of this, Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) said:  O Ibn Muljim!  You are truly wretched.  If you had drunk this sherbet on my asking, then by Allah I would not have drunk from the Houze Kauther until I had made you drink from it.  Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) passed away on the 20th of Ramadhan.

Apart from scholars, Shaykhs, a large number of people attended the lecture.  The session ended with Salaam and Dua.

Maulana Hafidh Syed Ahmed Ghouri, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
