Hadhrat Ameer Khusro (May Allah shower His mercy on him)

His name is Abul Hasan and his title is Ameer Khusro.  His father’s name is Hadhrat Ameer Saifuddin Balkh (May Allah shower His mercy on him).

He was born in 653 Hijri in Patiali in Etah and he passed away on 18th Shawwal 725 Hijri.  He had a life of 72 years.

When Hadhrat Ameer Khusro (May Allah shower His mercy on him) was born, his father took him to a mystic who used to live in the same locality.  The moment that mystic set his eyes on him, he said:  You have brought the one who will be two steps forward than Khaqani himself.

Education

He had his introductory education under his brother ‘Izzuddin Ali Shah (May Allah shower His mercy on him).

When Hadhrat Ameer Khusro came to Hadhrat Nizamuddin Auliya (May Allah shower His mercy on him), he was aged only 8 years.  When he came with the intention of giving his pledge (Ba‘yah) to Hadhrat Nizamuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him), he sat outside the door and recited a couplet in his heart.  He thought that if Hadhrat Nizamuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him) is a perfect Shaykh (Shaykh Kamil), he will answer to this couplet and call him inside.

Not much time had passed when the special attendant of Hadhrat Nizamuddin, “Mubasshir” came, recited a couplet (which was the answer to Ameer Khusro’s couplet) and said:  There is a Turk here.  He is asked to come in.

Hadhrat Ameer Khusro (May Allah shower His mercy on him) went inside and gave Hadhrat Nizamuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him) his pledge.

Hadhrat Nizamuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him) gave him a Turkish cap and said:  The station which could have taken months to achieve, you have achieved it in days.

Hadhrat Ameer Khusro (May Allah shower His mercy on him) fasted daily for 40 years.

Hadhrat Ameer Khusro (May Allah shower His mercy on him) loved his master, Hadhrat Nizamuddin, a lot.  In the same way, Hadhrat Nizamuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him) also loved him a lot.

Hadhrat Nizamuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him) said:  Ameer Khusro will not be able to live after me.  Bury him by my side and I will not enter Jannah until I take Ameer Khusro along with me.

Through the attention of his master, Hadhrat Ameer Khusro (May Allah shower His mercy on him) had supreme command over poetry.  He has gotten himself acknowledged in not only Persian, but also, Arabic, Turkish and Hindi as well.

He is not only an exemplar of the exoteric sciences, but is also a great master of the esoteric and mystical knowledge as well.

Apart from his daily spiritual practices and recitations, he would recite 7 parts of the Holy Quran in Tahajjud (the late night prayer).

Up till now, 90 of his works have been discovered.

At the time of the demise of Hadhrat Nizamuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him), Hadhrat Ameer Khusro (May Allah shower His mercy on him) was not present.  When he learnt of the passing away of his master, he gave away all his material wealth in charity in his master’s name.

Then he came to the grave of his master and said:  Subhanallah Aftaab Zer e Zameen aur Khusro Zinda! (Glory be to Allah!  The sun has gone inside the earth and Khusro is still alive!) and fainted.  He remained in grief after this and died after 6 months.  These 6 months, he spent crying for his master, sweeping the mausoleum of his master and lighting its lamps.

Some scholars have said that in the latter era, nobody has cried as much as Ameer Khusro (May Allah shower His mercy on him) in the grief of his master.

One day, exactly 6 months after the demise of Hadhrat Nizamuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him), he came to his grave and recited a couplet.  After this he passed away.  (Tarikh Ul Auliya, Pg. No. 147-151)
