Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) – The standard-bearer of truth

Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him)

The standard-bearer of truth

The status of the leader of the martyrs, the Imam, Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) is beyond all comprehension and imagination.  The beings of earthly and spiritual realms are busy in making mention of him.  In the battlefield of Karbala, the Imam gave an unparalleled sacrifice for the sake of Islam.  He was so immersed in the love of Allah and His Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that hunger and thirst of 3 days, swords and arrows and even the martyrdom of his 6-month-old son could not shake his steadfastness.  This Prince of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) invigorated and revived Islam through his martyrdom.

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture conducted under the aegis of AHIRC in Masjid Abul Hasanaat.

The revered Mufti said that Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) is the standard-bearer of truth and veracity.  His words, deeds, customs, etiquettes and character are all pure.  His heart was free of the love of this material world.  Insinuating that this was not so, is to deny facts.  It is well established through the Hadith that Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) is the leader of all young men of paradise.  The one to whom the leadership of paradise has been granted, why would he even seek the temporary power of this world?

The revered Mufti said that not only the lives of the Imams, Hasan and Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with them), even their blessed names are without any peer.  Almighty Allah preserved this names and no one before them had been named Hasan or Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with them).  Both these names are derived from the root word Husn (meaning beauty).

By selecting these names for them, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) made it clear to one and all that these 2 personalities are excellent in every way.  Their very names are proof enough of their grand status.

The revered Mufti said that the love of the Prophet’s Family (Ahle Bait) and attachment to them is a means of safeguarding one’s faith.

When Hadhrat Shaykh ‘Abdul Ahad (May Allah shower His Mercy on him), the father of Imam Rabbani Mujaddid Alf Thani Hadhrat Shaykh Ahmed Sirhindi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) was in the throes of death, Imam Rabbani (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) asked him about his condition.  Shaykh ‘Abdul Ahad (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) said:  I find my heart brimming with the love of the Prophet’s Family.  He then instructed his son:  The love of the Prophet’s Family is a means of keeping one’s faith intact at the time of death.

The revered Mufti said that Allah Most High has granted us the priceless treasure of faith and Islam through the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and has granted the means of safeguarding it also through Him.  Thus, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said on the occasion of the Farewell Hajj (Hujjatul Wada’a):  O people!  I am giving you 2 great bounties, as long as you hold on to them, you will never be misguided.  They are the Book of Allah and My Family (Jame’ Tirmidhi).  To love the Prophet’s Family is a demand of our faith and their love demands that we act upon their teachings and make their lives a beacon of guidance for ourselves.

After the lecture, there was a session of Dhikr and Sulook.  The whole session ended with the Dua of the revered Mufti.  Maulana Hafidh Syed Ahmed Ghouri, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
