The life of Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) – The very picture of Quranic teachings

The life of Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him)

The very picture of Quranic teachings

Almighty Allah has granted such spiritual heights to the house of His Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that it cannot be comprehended.  These great personalities also have been granted the worldly majesty and superiority and they are also the ones who are the Imams of the Ummah.  They are free of all outward and inward failings and they are pure in their thoughts, speech and actions.  The Holy Quran declares their pure state:

Allah only intends to keep away all impurity from you, O People of the House (of the Prophet, [even a doubt or trace of shortcoming]) and make you absolutely pure and clean by blessing you with (perfect) purity and wholesomeness.  Surah Ahzaab (33:33)

This verse does not say that the Prophet’s Family has been purified.  It says that all impurities have been kept away from the Prophet’s Family.  The turn of purification comes only when some impurity has attached itself.  When Allah Most High says that impurities have been kept away from the Prophet’s Family, then how can any impurity dare approach them?

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) Himself supplicated:  O Allah!  These are My family.  You please keep away all impurities from them and purify them completely.  Thus, the will of Allah cannot be overturned neither can the supplication of the Prophet go unanswered.

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture conducted under the aegis of AHIRC in Masjid Abul Hasanaat.

The revered Mufti said that it is evident from the aforementioned verse that the Prophet’s Family is free of all impurities.  Thus, it is baseless to insinuate that Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) had political aspirations or that he desired this material world.  The aforementioned verse of the Holy Quran negates such arguments.

The revered Mufti also said that those who drew benefit and blessings from the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) are 2 people: The Prophet’s Family and the Prophet’s Companions (May Allah be well pleased with them).  The Prophets’ Family is distinguished through their familial relationship to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and the Companions are distinguished by virtue of their association to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).

Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) is distinguished on both counts – he is a majestic member of the Prophet’s Family and a great Companion as well.  The experts of Hadith have named him as one of the most distinguished Companions.  He has not only the honor of being from the Prophets Family but also all the excellences that distinguish the Prophet’s Companions from others.

He also enjoys special closeness to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  He grew up in the lap of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) clasped him to His chest and let him ride on His blessed back.  He interrupted the sermon for the sake of the Imam and lengthened His prostration for him.

The revered Mufti said that once the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) let Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) ride upon Him.  Those who saw them said:  What an excellent mount!  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  How excellent is the rider as well!

In spite of being of such stature, the Imam was humble as well.  Some poor folk were sitting and having their meal at some place.  When Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) passed by, they invited him to share in their meal.  The Imam immediately got down from his mount and joined them.  After the meal, the Imam said:  I accepted your invitation and now I invite you to my house.  You please accept my invitation.  When they came, the Imam treated them to a sumptuous feast.

The revered Mufti said that every aspect of the Imam’s life is radiant.  Each quality of the Imam distinguishes him.  No seeker would go empty-handed from the door of the Imam.  Imam Zain Ul A’abideen (May Allah be well pleased with him) says:  My revered father would offer 3000 Raka’at of Supererogatory Salaat every day.  The Imam went for Hajj by foot 25 times.

After the lecture, there was a session of Dhikr and Sulook.  The whole session ended with the Dua of the revered Mufti.  Maulana Syed Ahmed Ghouri, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
