Belief in Oneness of Allah Most High and the Prophethood of Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) – The foundation of faith

Belief in Oneness of Allah Most High and the Prophethood of Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)

The foundation of faith

Belief in Oneness of Allah and Prophethood of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is the foundation without which the edifice of good deeds cannot be built.  Unless and until one’s beliefs are correct, one cannot gain deliverance.  If one makes a mistake about the Oneness or the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), then all our deeds will go waste.

All the Prophets invited the populace to the Oneness of Allah Most High and stopped them from ascribing partners to Allah Most High.  They warned people of the dangerous consequences of ascribing partners to Allah Most High.  Allah Most High says in the Holy Quran:

Surah Zumar-65

The Holy Quran declares ascribing partners to Allah Most High as a great sin.  It is the right of Allah Most High that only He should be worshipped and that no partners be associated with Him.  One should have the belief that Allah Most High is unequalled in His Being (Dhaat), attributes and works.  He is eternal.  He has no partner or equal.  Everyone needs Him, He doesn’t need anyone.  He is the only One who deserves to be worshipped.

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture conducted under the aegis of AHIRC in Masjid Abul Hasanaat.

The revered Mufti quoted from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) told Hadhrat Mua’adh (May Allah be well pleased with him):  O Mua’adh!  Do you know what rights the bondsmen of Allah owe to Him and what right does Allah Most High owe His bondsmen?  He said:  Allah and His Prophet know best.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  The right that the bondsmen of Allah owe to Him is to worship Him and not to ascribe any partner to Him.  The right that the Lord Almighty owes to His bondsmen is not to punish that person who doesn’t ascribe any partner to Him.  One should save oneself from ascribing partners to Allah both in beliefs and in our deeds.

Some people misinterpret the verses of the Holy Quran and try to include more and more things into what constitutes ascribing partners to Allah Most High.  They declare a large number of Muslims to be Mushrikeen i.e. those who ascribe partners to Allah Most High.  They quote those verses of the Holy Quran which were revealed about the disbelievers and make Muslims the subject of those verses.  This is against religion and against honesty.

Here, the revered Mufti quoted many verses from the Holy Quran and the Hadith to clearly describe the difference between belief in Oneness of Allah Most High and ascribing partners to Him.  In the first verse of Surah Isra, Allah Most High is described as Sam’ee and Baseer (the all-seeing and the all-hearing).  Again in Surah Hood, verse no. 2 Allah Most High says that He has made human beings also Sam’ee and Baseer.  Apparently, these 2 verses seem contradictory to each other.  However, there can be no contradiction of any kind in the Holy Quran.

The sight and hearing of the human beings is granted by Allah Most High, it is limited and is mortal and every attribute of Allah Most High is His own (not granted by anybody), eternal and immortal.  Human beings need their eyes and ears to see and hear, but Allah Most High doesn’t require any such “tool”.  Using Sam’ee and Baseer for Allah Most High is in a real sense and using them for human beings is in a virtual sense.

The revered Mufti said that human beings are gregarious by nature.  He needs others for fulfillment of his various needs.  This world is a place of means.  Utilizing means in a world of means is not against the Oneness of Allah Most High.  Allah Most High is not bound to any system whatsoever.  He does what He chooses to.  He sends children into this world through the father and mother.  It is a system which He made and it is His custom.  He is all powerful and can grant children without having a mother and father.  Thus, the Lord Almighty created Hadhrat Adam (May peace be upon him) without a mother and father and He created Hadhrat ‘Isa (May peace be upon him) without a father.

The One who grants children is the Lord Almighty, but the means are the parents.  The One who truly grants knowledge is Allah Most High but the apparent means are the teachers, etc.  Similarly, in matters of spirituality, Allah Most High has made His beloved servants the apparent means in this world.  Through them, the bounties of Allah Most High are granted to His bondsmen.

After the lecture, there was a session of Dhikr and Sulook.  The whole session ended with the Dua of the revered Mufti.  Maulana Hafidh Syed Ahmed Ghouri, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
