The services of Shaykh Ul Islam Imam Muhammad Anwaarullah Farooqui (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) for the Ummah

At the time of Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam Imam Muhammad Anwaarullah Farooqui (May Allah shower His Mercy on him), illiteracy was rampant in the country.  Luxury, singing and dancing were common.  Sins were committed day in and day out.  Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) started working against them silently.  As Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) was with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, this ministry was first reorganized and streamlined.  Earlier, it was entirely disorganized.

1.  The various departments were restructured again.  Duties were assigned for Ahle Khidmat Shariah and other things, but they weren’t actually performed.  Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) changed this.

2.  He took care of the education and the training of the personnel of this department.

3.  Educated personnel were sent to the villages and the remote areas to educate the people about the rules and laws of Islam.

4.  Special people were appointed to resolve issues when matters between husband and wife and other such people came to the court for decision.

5.  He made it compulsory to write down the details of the dower and other details when the marriage was solemnized to prevent such quarrels.

6.  The Supreme Court was instructed to let the in-charge know of the date of divorce in matters of divorce to find out the period of Iddat (waiting period after divorce) etc.

7.  To ensure the performance of Salaat in the Masjid, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, a yearly amount was given and Imams and Mueddhins were appointed.

8.  In slaughter houses, officials educated about the Islamic rules were appointed to ensure Halaal meat.

9.  Shops of wines and other intoxicants which were inside the city, were removed from within the city.

10.  In Ramadhan, it was compulsory for hotels to cover their entrances and eating in public was prohibited.

11.  On the occasion of ‘Urs of the saints, Meena Bazaar used to be organized and there used to be dances of courtesans.  All this was prohibited.

12.  Among the so-called low castes of Non-Muslim women, there was a custom of Murli, after which that woman could form sexual relationship with anybody.  All this was prohibited.

The above have been written in a very short and abbreviated form, otherwise one can understand how much Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) worked for the community and how he guided the community on the right path.  This is a sign of his sincerity and the approval of Allah Most High, that these tasks of his are not so famous.

The Law-Giver (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has declared the learning of Islamic knowledge Fardh on every Muslim, but Muslims are heedless about acquiring Islamic knowledge.  Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam exhorted the Muslims to do so.  First of all, he appointed speakers who would guide the people and appointed personnel trained in the basic rules of Islam (Ahle Khidmaat Shariah) to work in their respective areas.  Apart from this he started a number of Islamic schools.  He got a list made of the Islamic schools already running and released some grant for them depending on their needs and their work.

Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has related a dream of a saint in Maqaasid Ul Islam, 4th Volume, which shows the acceptance of Jamia Nizamia by the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  A saint saw in a dream that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is seated and is ordering that the certificates of Jamia Nizamia be placed before Him, so that He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) may sign them.  This is all the Grace of Allah Most High.
