Terrorism has no place in Islam

Terrorism has no place in Islam

Islam is a religion of peace and its merciful teachings are a source of comfort and solace to the whole mankind.

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture conducted under the aegis of AHIRC in Masjid Abul Hasanaat.   The Mufti was speaking on “Value of human life – In light of the teachings of Islam”.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) emphatically denounced and discouraged oppressing others, barbarism and killing and murdering of people.  He decreed them as prohibited.  He instructed one and all in mutual love and brotherhood and taught people to promote peace and security.  The Prophet granted security of life and honor to not only Muslims but also to all mankind regardless of their religion, faith, caste, creed or color.

The Prophet said:  All creation are the dependants of Allah Most High.  The most beloved to Allah Most High is the one who treats well His dependants.

We see great examples of this in the lives of the saints and the Sufis.  A disciple of Hadhrat Khaja Bandanawaz Gesudaraaz (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) addressed a non-Muslim with an indecorous word.  The Khaja reprimanded him and said:  What is this manner of talking?  The disciple entreated:  But he is not even a Muslim!  The Khaja’s face flushed due to anger and he said:  Is he not a human being?  By virtue of humanity, every human being ought to be respected.

Today humanity is passing through a difficult phase.  Human life seems to have become really cheap.  Bombs and guns kill and maim innocent folk, including women and children.  These terrorist attacks are condemnable in the extreme.  Islam has no relation to these acts.  Islam does not permit this at all.  Terrorism has no place in Islam. If someone breaches the peace of the society in the name of Islam, then that person is obviously going against the teachings of Islam.

Muslims have been ordered to pray for the peace and security of each other when they meet – Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakutuhu.  The Paradise that Muslims have been promised is also named as Daar as Salaam.  How can such a religion order that innocents be killed and barbarity be practiced in its name?  The definition of Muslim that the Prophet of Islam has given is in stark contrast to all this.

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands other Muslims are safe and a perfect believer is the one about whom people are sure that he (or she) will not hurt their lives or wealth.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  The person who murders a non-Muslim with whom there was an agreement of peace, that person will not get even the fragrance of Paradise on the Day of Judgment.

On the occasion of the Farewell Hajj, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  Indeed, your lives, wealth and honor are all sacrosanct among you the way this great day is in this city of yours.

The revered Mufti said that Islam has declared the life, wealth and property, and honor of every person of the society as inviolable.  Murdering someone is a grave sin so much so that murdering one person is akin to murdering all humankind.

Maulana Syed Bahauddin Zubair Naqshbandi led the proceedings.
