The progeny of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)


All the children of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) were from Hadhrat Khadija (May Allah be well pleased with her) except Hadhrat Ibrahim (May Allah be well pleased with him) who was born from Hadhrat Mariah Qubtiya (May Allah be well pleased with her)

 

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has 3 sons and 4 daughters.

 

The sons:

 

1.    Hadhrat Qasim (May Allah be well pleased with him)

 

2.    Hadhrat ‘Abdullah (May Allah be well pleased with him)

 

3.    Hadhrat Ibrahim (May Allah be well pleased with him)

 

The daughters:

 

1.    Hadhrat Zainab (May Allah be well pleased with her)

 

2.    Hadhrat Ruqayya (May Allah be well pleased with her)

Brief life sketches of His progeny

 

Hadhrat Qasim (May Allah be well pleased with him)

 

The eldest son of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  He passed away at the age of 2 before the declaration of Prophethood.  The Kuniyah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) i.e. Abul Qasim is because of him.

 

Hadhrat ‘Abdullah (May Allah be well pleased with him)

 

He is the second son of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  He was born in Makkah before the declaration of Prophethood and passed away in his infancy.  His honorifics were Tayyab and Tahir.

 

Hadhrat Ibrahim (May Allah be well pleased with him)

 

He is the youngest son of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  He was born in the month of Dhul Hijjah in 8 Hijri in “‘Awali” near Madina and he also passed away in infancy.  His blessed grave is in Jannat Ul Baq’ee near the grave of Hadhrat ‘Uthman bin Maz’oon (May Allah be well pleased with him).  He was of 7 or 8 months at the time of his demise death.

 

Hadhrat Zainab (May Allah be well pleased with her)

 

She was the eldest daughter of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  She was born 10 years before the declaration of Prophethood.

 

She was married before the declaration of Prophethood with her maternal cousin Abul A’as bin Rab’ee (May Allah be well pleased with him) who later on embraced Islam and passed away in 8 Hijri.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) granted His own garment as his funeral shroud and He Himself placed him in his grave in Jannat Ul Baq’ee.  He has 1 son whose name is “Ali” (May Allah be well pleased with him) and one daughter.

 

Hadhrat Ruqayya and Umme Kulsum (May Allah be well pleased with them)

 

Hadhrat Ruqayya (May Allah be well pleased with her) was born 7 years before the declaration of Prophethood.  One after the other, both of them was married to Hadhrat ‘Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him).  For this reason, Hadhrat ‘Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him) is called “Dhun Noorain,” the one with 2 radiances.  Through Hadhrat Ruqayya (May Allah be well pleased with her), Hadhrat ‘Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him) had a son who was named Hadhrat ‘Abdullah (May Allah be well pleased with him).  Hadhrat Ruqayya (May Allah be well pleased with her) passed away at the young age of 20.  Her blessed grave is in Jannat Ul Baq’ee.

 

In 3 Hijri, in the month of Rab’ee Ul Awwal, after the demise of Hadhrat Ruqayya (May Allah be well pleased with her), the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) married Hadhrat Umme Kulthoom (May Allah be well pleased with her) also to Hadhrat ‘Uthman.  She passed away in 9 Hijri in the month of Sha’abaan and is resting in Jannat Ul Baq’ee.

 

Hadhrat Fatima (May Allah be well pleased with her)

 

Hadhrat Fatima (May Allah be well pleased with her) was born in the year the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) declared Prophethood.  She was the youngest and the most beloved child of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and is chief of all women.  She is also known as Syedatun Nisaai Ahlil Jannah, Zahra, Butool, Syeda, Zahida, Tayaba, Tahira, etc.

 

Two years after the Emigration, she was married to the Lion of Allah, Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him).  She had 3 sons Hadhrat Imam Hasan, Imam Hussain and Imam Muhsin (May Allah be well pleased with them) and 3 daughters Hadhrat Zainab, Hadhrat Umme Kulthoom, Hadhrat Ruqayya (May Allah be well pleased with them).  Hadhrat Fatima (May Allah be well pleased with her) passed away 6 months after the demise of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), in the month of Ramadan in 11 Hijri and she too is resting in peace in Jannat Ul Baq’ee.
