Auliya - Ambassadors of peace-II

Allah Ta'ala says in the Holy Quran:

(O Esteemed Beloved!) Recite that Book which has been revealed to you and establish Prayer. Surely Prayer prohibits indecency and impiety; and verily the remembrance of Allah is the greatest. And Allah knows whatever (deeds) you do.  Surah Ankabut (29:45)

In this verse, Allah Ta'ala has ordered 3 things:  Recitation of the Holy Quran, offering of Salaat and Dhikr of Allah Ta'ala.  To fulfill each of these objectives, 3 institutions were established.  For the Holy Quran, Madarsas, for offering of Salaat, Masjid and for Dhikr, Khanqah.

In the Khanqah, the self was cleaned of blameworthy attributes and bad manners and adorned with high morals and praiseworthy attributes, which the Holy Quran demands of us.

Verily, the Khanqah of the saints are centers of peace.  People of different backgrounds meet there.  They share each others sorrows and cares.  All of them are given what they need there.  The Khanqah have arrangements (Langar), where the poor and the travelers are given food.  Thus, who can deny the benefit of such an institution, which benefits people in every manner, be it physical or spiritual.  Some incidents are being presented here to illustrate this point.

Advice of Hadhrat Nizamuddin Auliya (May Allah shower His mercy on him):

Once in the house of Hadhrat Nizamuddin Auliya (May Allah shower His mercy on him), a person was caught with a knife.  Allah Ta'ala knows his what His intention was.  When this became known to Hadhrat Nizamuddin Auliya (May Allah shower His mercy on him), he forbade others from hurting him.  Then, he summoned that person and told him:  You promise that you will not hurt others.

When that person did so, Hadhrat Nizamuddin Auliya (May Allah shower His mercy on him) ordered that money for expenses should be given to that person.

Then, Hadhrat Nizamuddin Auliya (May Allah shower His mercy on him) said the following about enmity:

Translation: Bear hurt and leave the reprisal to the Lord!

May Allah Ta'ala grant comfort to the person who pains us!  May Allah Ta'ala be the helper of the person who leaves us helpless!  For the person who lays down thorns in our path, may all the flowers in his life be without thorns.

He also said:

Someone lays thorns in somebody's path and that person also lays thorns in the other person's path, this is like one to the other.  This is the practice of laymen, but this does not happen among the dervishes.  The dervishes are good with those who are good, but they are not evil with those who are evil.  (Siyar Ul Auliya, Pg. No. 578)

With his teachings and his character, Hadhrat Nizamuddin Auliya (May Allah shower His mercy on him) gave the message of peace.  With his wisdom and sagacity, he turned the person who was bent on destroying the peace of the society into a standard bearer of peace and turned him from a terrorist into a pacifist.  Each word of what he said is an invitation to peace.

He came for murder, but became a Muslim:

The author of "Miratul Asrar" has written an incident about Hadhrat Khwaja Ghareebnawaz (May Allah shower His mercy on him):

Once a cruel non-Muslim hid a dagger below his arm and came to Hadhrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti with the evil intention of murdering him.  The Khwaja divined his intention and told him:  Why don’t you use your dagger?  I offer my neck to you.

On listening to this, that person started trembling.  He threw away the dagger, fell at the feet of the Khwaja.  He repented and embraced Islam.  (Miraatul Asrar, Pg. No. 598)

Incident narrated by Hadhrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya:

Hadhrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya (May Allah shower His mercy on him) relates an incident:

Translation: There was a king who was known as Taraani.  There was a rebellion against him and he was assassinated.  Taraani loved Hadhrat Shaykh Saifuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him) a lot.  In place of Taraani, some other person was made king.  This king had an official who hated Hadhrat Shaykh Saifuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him).  When he got a chance to speak with the king, he told the king that if he wants his reign to be well established, he should do away with Hadhrat Shaykh Saifuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him), as the first change in the sultanate was due to him.

The king told that official himself to go and bring Hadhrat Shaykh Saifuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him) to the court.  That official went and brought Shaykh Saifuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him) to the court in a very disrespectful manner.  (Maybe he put his turban in his neck and dragged him along or some other way).

When Hadhrat Shaykh Saifuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him) reached the court, as soon as the king saw him, he immediately got up from his throne and touched the feet of the Shaykh and apologized to him and assured him that this was not his order.

The Shaykh returned home.  The next day, the king got the hands and feet of the official and sent him to Hadhrat Shaykh Saifuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him).  He sent him a message that he had had him declared as being liable to be executed.  Now it is up to the Shaykh as to how he finishes him off.

As soon as the Shaykh saw him, he untied his hands and feet, dressed him in his clothes and told him:  Today, you come to the public lecture with me.  On the pulpit, the Shaykh recited a couplet, which meant:

Whoever does evil to us, if possible I would do nothing but good to him.  (Siyar Ul Auliya, Pg. No. 581/582)
