f:412 - What if parents are at fault in dealing with wife
| Country : Kuwait, |
Name : Withheld
|Question: Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu, |
Mufti Sahab, the Holy Quran stresses obedience of parents. I live in Kuwait, but my wife, children and the whole family still lives in Pakistan. Small arguments in the house, etc. do happen. But here, my parents are at fault most of the time. My mother has a bad habit of lying. My father has a very angry nature. Often, he abuses the younger sisters and breaks off relations with other relatives. Please give me the solution of this problem.

Being a son, your parents have rights over you and being a husband, your wife also has rights over you. It is necessary to give the wife her rights. The Shariah does not allow rights of one party trampled in fulfilling the rights of the other. Thus, you instruct your wife to behave well with your father and mother and not to allow any hard feeling to be created.
You also request your parents that excesses should not be committed against anyone and that they should treat the daughter-in-law with affection and mildness. Your father’s abusing your sisters and breaking off relations with relatives is a sin, so he should reform himself.
If attitudes are changed on both sides and each one treats other with affection, then Allah-willing, the relations between your wife and your parents will be well.
And Allah Most High knows best.
