f:1171 -    When should one perform Sajda Sahw if one joins the congregational Salaat after Sajda Sahw
Country : Hyderabad, India,
Name : Muhammad Akhter

Question:
By the grace of Allah, I offer Salaat regularly, but sometimes I miss the congregation.  Once I joined the congregational Salaat in the last sitting and thereafter continued my Salaat and finished it.  Later I learn that the Imam had performed Sajda Sahw and I hadn’t done so.  In such a case, what should one do?

.....................................................................................................................................
Answer:
If an Imam performs Sajda Sahw (prostration performed on missing some article of Salaat) and someone joins the Salaat after it was performed, then Sajda Sahw is not Compulsory (Wajib) on this person.  It is necessary for a follower to follow the lead of the Imam.  However, if a person joins the congregational Salaat after Sajda Sahw has been performed, the Shariah ruling is that this person shouldn’t perform this prostration at the end of his Salaat, as now he is not offering the Salaat in the lead of the Imam.  As is mentioned in Fatawa A’alamgiri, Kitaab Us Salaat.

And Allah Most High knows best.
