f:1161 -    Supplicating in any other language apart from Arabic while offering Salaat
Country : Pakistan,
Name : Uzair Attari

Question:
I got a reply from you that we can recite supplications during the Salaat only in prostrations in Nafl Salaat.  Can we recite supplications in Arabic or in our mother tongue?

.....................................................................................................................................
Answer:
It is Abhorrent (Makruh Tahrimi) to recite a supplication during Salaat in any other language apart form Arabic.  You may recite such supplications that have been mentioned in the Hadith.  Apart from them, you may also supplicate in Arabic provided those supplications are not similar to human speech and/or can be asked from fellow human beings as well.  The Jurists give the example that supplicating, “O Allah!  Make so and so my wife” is similar to human speech and can be asked of human beings as well.  Thus, this kind of things should not be asked for in Salaat.  If someone supplicates in the words: “O Allah!  Grant me forgiveness.”  This is not similar to human talk and cannot be asked of fellow human beings.  Thus, this kind of supplications can be made in Salaat.

As mentioned in Radd Ul Muhtaar, Kitab Us Salaat and in Fatawa A’alamgiri.

And Allah knows best.
