f:1201 -    Can we offer Salaat with sleeves rolled up?
Country : Kurnool, India,
Name : Rafeeq Ahmed

Question:
I come to the mosque to offer Salaat.  Sometimes, by the time I complete the ablution, the Salaat starts.  By the time I reach the rows of worshippers, the Imam goes into Ruku.  In such a situation, I hastily start my Salaat and go into Ruku.  A part of my sleeve is still rolled up.  Can I unroll it or should I let it be?

Answer:
As per the Shariah, folding/rolling up sleeves while offering Salaat is Undesirable (Makruh).  It is better to prepare for Salaat keeping in mind all the proprieties and Commendable (Mustahab) acts of Salaat.

If a person makes ablution and to gain that Raka’at joins the Salaat in a hurry with the sleeves still folded, then ‘Allama Ibn A’abideen Shaami (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) writes in Radd Ul Muhtaar that doing so is Undesirable (Makruh).  It is better for that person to roll down his sleeves with minimal effort. If the sleeves are not set right, then the Salaat is rendered Undesirable.  As mentioned in Radd Ul Muhtaar, Kitaab Us Salaat, Baabu maa yufsidus salaata wa maa yukrihu.

And Allah knows best.
