f:1249 -    Breaking bangles on hearing of the death of the husband
Country : Hyderabad, India,
Name : Noor Ain

Question:
At some places, we see that when the wife learns of the husband’s death, she shatters her bangles, as she must not wear bangles from then on.  Is this correct as per the Shariah?

.....................................................................................................................................
Answer:
As per the Shariah, the woman whose husband has passed away must mourn for 4 months and 10 days.  In this period, she cannot adorn and beautify herself.

However, shattering the bangles is not correct.  Instead they should be removed, as in shattering them, money is wasted and that is not allowed either.  Also, if the bangles are shattered when the woman is wearing them, there is a chance that the hand might be injured.

And Allah Most High knows best.
