f:777 -    Hairpins, etc. of gold or silver
Country : Muradnagar, Hyderabad.,
Name : Aisha Fatima

Question:
Can women use hairpins, etc. made of gold/silver.  What about hairpins of other metals?

.....................................................................................................................................
Answer:
The Shariah permits women to adorn and beautify themselves within certain limits.  As Allah Ta'ala says:

Say: ‘Who has forbidden the adornment (and beautification) of Allah that He has produced for His servants and (who has forbidden also) the pure and clean food?’ Say: ‘(All these bounties) that are (available generally) for the believers in the life of this world will be exclusively (for them) on the Day of Resurrection. This way We elucidate Our Revelations for those who have knowledge.’  Surah A’araaf (7:32)

The Shariah has ruled using gold and silver as permissible (Mubah) for women.  It is up to them if they use jewelry of gold or silver or use it in their hair as brooches or hairpins.  There is no problem with this.

In the same way, for beautifying themselves, they can use brooches, hairpins, etc. of other metals as well.  It is permissible in light of the Shariah.

As given in Fatawa A'alamgiri, Vol. 5, Pg. No. 359.

And Allah Most High knows best.
