Zakaat - In light of the Holy Quran and the Hadith

<meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" /> <meta content="Word.Document" name="ProgId" /> <meta content="Microsoft Word 12" name="Generator" /> <meta content="Microsoft Word 12" name="Originator" /> <link href="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\AMIN-U~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_filelist.xml" rel="File-List" /> <link href="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\AMIN-U~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_themedata.thmx" rel="themeData" /> <link href="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\AMIN-U~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_colorschememapping.xml" rel="colorSchemeMapping" /><style type="text/css">  </style> <p class="MsoNormal">Zakat is the third pillar of Islam and similar to Salaat (Prayer), the second pillar of Islam; it is also significant.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">In the Shariah, after Salaat it is the one, which is emphasized a lot and whose virtuousness is mentioned time and again.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">To stress its importance and to emphasize it, its significance is stated at not less than 32 places in the Holy Quran along with the Salaat and separately.<span style="">  </span>Moreover, even in the Hadith, Salaat and Zakat are stated simultaneously, which proves that Zakat has the utmost degree of proximity with the Salaat and indeed everyone knows perceive, what kind of worship Salaat is.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">When Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) and the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam) gave Zakat as much importance as Salaat then (in regard to its performance) it is also equal to Salaat.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Through this, one can assume the importance of Zakat and the emphasis laid by the Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala).<span style="">  </span>This is why there are warnings of severe torment that even at its thought, the hearts of the believers get terrified and after hearing them, no believer will ever dare to hesitate or delay in giving it.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">For instance, two of the Quranic verses and Hadith are mentioned below for your assistance.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">And those who are niggardly in giving away (from the wealth) which Allah has bestowed upon them out of His bounty must never consider this miserliness of any benefit for themselves; it is rather injurious to them.<span style="">  </span>Soon on the Day of Resurrection this wealth, which they are niggardly about, will be put around (their necks) like a neck-fetter.<span style="">  </span>To Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth (i.e.<span style="">  </span>He will remain the Owner of the universe after your death in the same way as He owns it today).<span style="">  </span>And Allah is Well Aware of all your deeds.<span style="">  </span><span style=""> </span>Surah Al Imran (<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Which means such wealth is a pest for them.<span style="">  </span>In the interpretation of this verse it is stated that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam) said:</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Translation of Hadith:<span style="">  </span>To whomsoever Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) granted wealth and he/she doesn't give Zakat of it then on the day of judgment, his wealth will be revealed before him in the form of black serpent with two heads which will coil around his neck, grab his two jaws and will say: I'm your fortune, yours treasure.<span style="">  </span><span style=""> </span>Then the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam) recited the above stated verse.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">In Surah Taubah Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) said:<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">O Believers! Indeed the majority of the priests and monks (of the People of the Book) devour the wealth of the people through unfair (means) and hinder from the path of Allah (i.e.<span style="">  </span>fill their safes with people’s money and hinder it from being spent for the publicity and promotion of the True Din [Religion]).<span style="">  </span>And those who hoard silver and gold and do not spend it in the cause of Allah, warn them of a grievous torment.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">The Day when this (gold, silver and wealth) will be heated in the Fire of Hell, their foreheads, sides and backs will be branded with this (heated material, and it will be said to them:) ‘This is the same (wealth) that you treasured for (the benefit of) your souls.<span style="">  </span>So taste (this wealth) which you had been amassing.’<span style="">  </span>Surah Tauba (34, 35)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Further explanation of this verse is given in the Hadith.<span style="">  </span>The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam) said that the body of the person who does not pay Zakat will be made so huge that even if thousands of rupees are gathered; each rupee will be separate.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Therefore in view of the above mentioned Quranic verses and Hadith, it is clearly evident that one who is well to do should certainly give Zakat to the deserving.</p>
