A Muslim does not humiliate others

A seeker of the Lord Almighty should never humiliate anybody. In fact, seekers should avoid such acts which spoil the heart. Humiliating somebody is to hurt them.

Anecdote: Once, Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin Mubarak (May Allah be well pleased with him) was going somewhere with much pomp and splendor. On the way, he met a descendent of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), i.e. a Syed, who was very poor.

He asked Hadhrat Ibn Mubarak (May Allah shower His Mercy on him): I am a descendent of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). But I see that your status is higher than mine. Why is it so?

Hadhrat Ibn Mubarak (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) answered: I have acquired the inheritance of your blessed Forefather (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), i.e. knowledge. That’s why I have gained this status and you have acquired the inheritance of my misguided father. That’s why you have been debased.

The same night, Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin Mubarak (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) saw the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) in a dream. He dreamt that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was displeased with him.

Hadhrat Ibn Mubarak (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) inquired: O Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)! May I know the reason for Your displeasure? The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: You have humiliated my son, which has hurt Me.

Hadhrat Ibn Mubarak (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) woke up perturbed. He set out in search of that Syed. There, that Syed also saw the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) in a dream. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) told him: O My son! If your acts were nice, ‘Abdullah would not have been able to humiliate you!

That Syed also set out in search of Hadhrat Ibn Mubarak (May Allah shower His Mercy on him). Both of them met on the way, related their dreams and repented.

Just see!Humiliating others is so bad that it hurt the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) even.
