The women in the life of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)

The women in the life of the Holy Prophet

(Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was the one who granted women their due rights.  Here, we present a series on the women in the life of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).

Hadhrat Amina (May Allah be well pleased with her), the mother of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)

Her lineage is Amina bint Wahb bin Abde Munaf bin Zahra bin Kilab.  The grandfather of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) Hadhrat ‘Abdul Muttalib went to seek her hand for his son, Hadhrat ‘Abdullah (May Allah be well pleased with him), who was the father of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  Thus, their marriage was solemnized.

When the Prophet was 6 years of age, Hadhrat Amina (May Allah be well pleased with her) took Him to meet His maternal relatives.  They stayed there for 1 month.  Then they started the return journey to Makkah.  On the way, at Abwa, the mother of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) passed away.  She was buried there itself.  Hadhrat Umm Aiman (May Allah be well pleased with her) returned with the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) to Makkah.

The foster mothers of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)

For 7 days, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was suckled by His mother.  Then, for some days, Hadhrat Thuwayba (May Allah be well pleased with her) nursed the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)

Hadhrat Thuwayba (May Allah be well pleased with her) – She was the slave-girl of Abu Lahab.  She was freed by Abu Lahab when she conveyed the news of the birth of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) to Abu Lahab.  Even after emigrating to Madina, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would send clothes and expenses to her.

She passed away in 7 Hijri.  She had a son Hadhrat Masrooh (May Allah be well pleased with him) who passed away in her own lifetime.  All the biographers are unanimous that Hadhrat Thuwayba (May Allah be well pleased with her) embraced Islam.

Haleema Sa’adiya (May Allah be well pleased with her) –She was from the clan of Sa’eed bin Bakr.  As per the customs of the Quraish, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was sent to live with her.  He remained with her until He reached the age of 5 years.  The incident of the Shaqq Ul Sadr i.e. the incident wherein the angels came and split the chest of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and washed His heart with water from paradise, happened in this time itself.

She remained alive for a long time.  Later on, she came to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) once and the Prophet said: My mother….my mother and spread His own cloak for her to sit.  It is said her husband came to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) embraced Islam and remained steadfast on it.  Thus, she also must have embraced Islam wholeheartedly.
