How to spend the last night of Ramadhan

How to spend the last night of Ramadhan

Allah Most High has ordered us to express happiness on Eid.  As given in the Holy Quran in Surah Yunus, verse 58:

Say: ‘(All this) is due to the bounty and mercy of Allah (bestowed upon you through raising Muhammad [blessings and peace be upon him] as the exalted Messenger). So the Muslims should rejoice over it. This is far better than (all that affluence and wealth) that they amass.’

So, without wasting our time in markets and in shopping, we should prepare for Eid.  Especially the last night, we should not waste and we should it in prayer, as it is Commendable (Mustahab) to spend the last night in prayer.  As given in Durre Mukhtaar, Vol 1, Pg No: 507.

This last night is also called as Lailatul Jaiza (the night of reward) as on this night, the Mercy of Allah Most High is at its peak and prayers are not rejected.  The pious worshippers of Allah Most High after spending the month of Ramadhan in obedience of Allah's commandments, spend the night standing before Him waiting for the benevolence of the Lord.

There is a Hadith in Musannaf Abdur Razzaq, Vol 4, Pg No: 317:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with them): There are 5 nights on which prayers are not rejected………

Among them are the night of Eid also.

There is a Hadith in At Targhib Wat Tarhib, Vol 2, Pg No: 152:

Translation:  It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Mua'adh bin Jabal (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Whoever spends these 5 nights in prayer, paradise is deemed compulsory for them…..

The nights preceeding both the Eid are also included here.

Thus, the last night of Ramadhan i.e. the night before Eid should not be wasted and we should try to spend it in prayer as we are able to.

The following acts are Compulsory on the day of Eid:

To beautify oneself (i.e. have a hair cut, cut one's nails etc.)

To have a bath.

To use Miswak (apart from using it during ablution).

To offer Salaat Ul Fajr of that day in one's local mosque.

To go to the Eidgah (a special place for Salaat Ul Eid) early in the morning.

To give the Sadqa Fitr and go to the Eidgah.

To have something sweet (like dates) before going to the Eidgah (if it is dates, then having them in an odd number).

To offer Salaat Ul Eid in Eidgah.

To go the Eidgah using one route and returning from another.

To recite the Takbir softly on Eid Ul Fitr.
