The knowledge and wisdom of Hadhrat Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (May Allah be well pleased with him)

The knowledge and wisdom of Hadhrat Shaykh ‘Abdul Qadir Jeelani

(May Allah be well pleased with him)

The Shaykh said:  Any Muslim who passes by the door of my school, Allah Most High will reduce his (or her) punishment on the Day of Judgment.

A (dead) person would cry out in his grave and his cries would trouble the living.  This was conveyed to the Shaykh.  The Shaykh said:  That person had seen me once.  Allah will surely have Mercy on him.  After that, that voice wasn’t heard.

Once, the Shaykh had just made his ablution that a bird defecated on him.  The Shaykh glanced up and the bird fell down, dead.  The Shaykh washed his clothes and sold it away.  The amount that was received, he gave it away in charity and said:  This was for that.

The Shaykh would give lessons in 13 sciences.  Students would learn exegesis of the Holy Quran, the sciences of Hadith, jurisprudence and reasons for difference in it, principles of jurisprudence and Arabic grammar from him.

After Salaat Ul Zuhr, the Shaykh would recite the Holy Quran in its various recitations and would give edicts as per the schools of Imam Shafa’ee and Imam Ahmed bin Hambal (May Allah be well pleased with them).  When the scholars of Iraq would see the edicts of the Shaykh, they would exclaim:  How great is He who has given this kind of knowledge.

A person said on oath that he would perform such worship of Allah Most High that no one else in the world could perform it, otherwise his wife is divorced from him.  The Shaykh immediately said:  Go to the Ka’aba.  Ask everyone to vacate the area of circumambulation (Mataaf) and circumambulate around the Ka’aba.  Your oath will be fulfilled.

When the scholars of Iraq heard of this, they were astonished.  They had despaired of finding a satisfactory answer to this.
