f:1220 - Sacrifice of smaller animal in collective sacrifice of animals
Country : India,
Name : Muhammad Nooruddin
Question: When going for collective sacrifice of animal, there are different kinds of animals. For 1 animal, the price per portion will be 1800 and for the other kind, it will be something like 1500. The animal whose price is 1800 per portion is bulkier than the other kind. Now what is being done is that money is taken for the bigger animal and the smaller animal (whose price is less) is being sacrificed. Will such a sacrifice be considered valid in light of the Shariah?
Answer: The only reason why there is a difference in the price of big animals is that all of them are not equal. Obviously, the portions of the fatter and bulkier animal will be priced higher. Taking money for the bulkier animal and giving portions of the smaller animal is not correct in light of the Shariah. This constitutes cheating and breaking of one’s promise. It is the essential responsibility of those arranging and organizing collective sacrifice of animals that they ensure that the kind of animal booked should be sacrificed. They should be honest in this matter. Those people who go for collective sacrifice of animal should assure themselves in this regard and should give the responsibility only to such people who are honest.
As far as the validity of the sacrifice is concerned, if the animal sacrificed meets the criteria of the Shariah then the sacrifice is valid.
And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) knows best.
