f:202 - What to do if animal is not sacrificed in Eid days
Country : Hyderabad, India,
Name : Shamsuddin Qadri
Question: Among our relatives is a certain person who was so busy during the Qurbani days, that he could neither buy an animal nor sacrifice it, even though he is rich. Now, what should he do? Should he sacrifice an animal even though the days of Qurbani have passed? Or he is exempted from Qurbani as the days have passed?
Answer: The days specified for sacrifice of animal are 10th, 11th and 12th of Dhul Hijjah. The time is from after the Salaat Ul Eid until the ‘Asr of 12th Dhul Hijjah i.e. until the time for ‘Asr ends. After this the animal cannot be sacrificed with this intention.
If any person does not sacrifice the animal in the stipulated days, neither did he/she buy an animal and the specified days pass, then as doing so was Compulsory (Wajib), there is no exemption from this, but it is necessary for that person to give away the price of the animal in charity. As given in Radd Ul Muhtaar, Vol. 5, Pg. No: 226:
Translation: If a rich person has not sacrificed an animal and the specified days have passed, then that person should give the price of a goat in charity.
Thus, your relative who because of his engagements could not sacrifice the animal in spite of being rich, should give the price of an animal in charity and fulfill his Islamic responsibility.
And Allah Most High knows best.
