f:234 -    What to do if the animal is injured after buying
Country : India,
Name : Abdul Majeed
Question:     Last year, I bought an animal for Qurbani.  While bringing home, that animal fell in a pit and broke its foreleg.  I bought another animal and sacrificed it.  If somebody faces this kind of situation and cannot buy another animal, what should they do?
............................................................................
Answer:     If any person buys an animal and after buying the animal, such an imperfection develops in the animal with which the sacrifice of that animal is not valid, then the Shariah has 2 cases about this:

1.  If the person is affluent and sacrifice of an animal is Compulsory for that person, then that person should buy another animal and sacrifice it.

2.  If that person is not affluent and is performing a Supererogatory (Nafl) sacrifice, then as that animal has already been selected for sacrifice, the person should sacrifice the same animal even though some imperfection might have developed in the animal later.

As given in Durre Mukhtaar, Vol. 5, Pg No. 229.
