f:358 -    Returning due money after a period of a time
Country : Saudi Arabia,
Name : Withheld
Question:     Assalam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakutuhu, I have a question.  Once earlier, I had gone for Umrah in Ramadhan.  I took a taxi to Masjid Aisha and returned to Makkah in the same taxi.  That driver instead of taking the usual 40, 50 Riyal asked for 120 Riyal.  When I told him, I could not pay that much, he insisted on payment.  I said, I will come in a moment and ran away.  Now I am regretting this.  How should I repent for this before Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta?ala).  Please tell me.  May Allah Ta?ala reward you for this.
Answer:     Walaikum Assalaam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakutuhu,

If you can send the amount to that person in some way, please do it and don’t be careless about this.  If this is not possible, then give the amount in charity on behalf of that person.  Then if you meet that person somewhere or you get his address, returning the amount is compulsory for you.  This comes under the rights of the people and not fulfilling this is a great sin.  You repent before Almighty Allah and keep searching for that person.

And Allah Most High knows best.
