Country : Kolkata,
Name : Mujeeb Ahmed
Question: I have heard that while removing the shoes, we should remove the left shoe first. When entering the Masjid, we should enter it with the right foot. We also have to remove our shoes. What is the correct method? Please guide me.
Answer: The correct method of wearing and removing shoes has been mentioned in Sahih Bukhari:
Translation: It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Whenever anyone of you wears shoes, he should start from the right side, so that the right foot is the first one in both feet in which a shoe is worn and the left is last among both feet from which the shoe is removed. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 5855)
On entering the mosque, the right foot should be placed in the mosque first and the Sunnah way of removing the shoes is that the left shoe should be removed first. For the person who is entering the mosque after removing the shoe, the correct method is that after removing the shoe from the left foot, that foot should be placed on the shoe itself, then remove the right shoe and step into the mosque with the right foot first, as given in Ghamz Uyunil Basair Fi Sharahil Ashba Wan Nadhair.
And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) knows best.
