f:750 -    Status of Hafidh of the Holy Quran
Country : Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,
Name : Syed Mazhar Ali
Question:     Assalamualaikum! I want to know what the Hadith say about the superiority of Hafidh of Holy Quran and is it allowed for a Hafidh to recite the Holy Quran in Taraweeh in Ramadhan?
Answer:     The excellence of the Hafidh of the Holy Quran is established in many Hadith.  The great Muhaddith (Hadith-expert) of the 10th century, Ali Muttaqi Hindi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has recorded Hadith in Kanz Ul 'Ummal about the excellence and superiority of a Hafidh:

Translation: The Hafidh of the Holy Quran is the standard-bearer of Islam.  Whoever respects a Hafidh, undoubtedly respects Almighty Allah.  Allah's curse is on those who disrespects a Hafidh.  (Kanz Ul 'Ummal, Hadith No: 2294)

There is a Hadith in Musnad Ahmed:

Translation: Hadhrat Abdullah bin Amr (May Allah be well pleased with him) narrates from the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

It will be told to a Hafidh of the Holy Quran: Keep reciting the Holy Quran and keep ascending the stations of paradise.  Recite with Tartil (slowly, following the rules of recitation) the way you recited in the world, because your final station (of paradise) will be where you are when you recite the last verse of the Holy Quran.  (Musnad Ahmed, Hadith No. 6508)

Reciting the whole Holy Quran once in Taraweeh is a Sunnah, finishing it 2 times is excellence and finishing it 3 times is the best (Afdhal).  (Durre Mukhtaar, Vol. 1)

It is better for the Hafidh to recite the Holy Quran in Taraweeh than offering Taraweeh after somebody, as this keeps the Holy Quran firmly fixed in memory.  When Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) has given the benefit of memorization of the entire Holy Quran, it should be recited in Taraweeh as there are many blessings for those who recite it and for those listen to its recitation.

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) knows best.
